27c256 DEVICE DID NOT PROGRAM

I searched and could not find anything out. I have a pp2 running XP. My question is- Do I have to use the bin stacker to program the 27c256 chip? I know this is stupid but I read my AUJP bin and saved, Then tried to burn the eprom with the same bin and always come up with device did not program. I tried to shut things down on the computer before burning still no good I have new eproms also. I'm stuck

Not all 27c256's are created equal. There can be differences in the programming voltages and writing strategies. There are also differences in chip speed which may affect your application.

IIRC, you need a 200ns chip at least (see Tim's PROMINTRO)- but you'll even see some 300's around- I'm not sure how these run.

Also some PROM's don't have the correct operating heat range.

Caveat emptor.
