Another 2732a Post

Well, I finally found the money to buy a pocket programmer and anything else I need to program my own chips for my 8746 ecm. The problem I've run into now is what chip options do I have now? I wanted to use Moates TBI adapter, but he discontinued it not very long before I bought the PPII. I have 4 29C256 chips just sitting in my room waiting to run my car, but I cant get my hands on the proper adapter to use them. I tried making my own adapter, but all I get is a rapidly flashing SES light when I install the chips. I basicly just matched all the pins up on the two chips (except for the +5v that goes from pin 24 on the 2732 to pin 28 on the 29C256), and I tried that. No luck. So, I tried grounding the A12-A14 address lines on the 29C256 chip. Still no go. I dont have the skills or the tools to make a proper circuit board, and my poor-man engineering couldn't make those cool flash chips work at all

So, is the only other option I have is to buy 2732a chips and an eraser? I really didnt want to do this for testing purposes. I will probably want to burn a chip like that once i get everything where i want it, so i can put the ecm back in its place, but while im still tweaking it i wanted to use the flash chips.

I guess I'm not asking for help as much as I am begging for anything other than using 2732a chips. Is there any way I can get my hands on an old TBI adapter the Moates made, or does anyone have any other alternatives that could save me some time and money.

Thanks for any help,
Michael

Check the "papers" section on diy-efi.org. There is a post of some plans for a homemade adapter to use 27C256 chips in an 8 bin selectable fashion. Here's the link:

What's wrong with 2732A's? It takes 2 minutes (exactly) to erase and the burning takes all of 3 seconds. Does that really seem like a big hassle? It sure beats P4 PCMs with FLASH chips on-board (flashing through the ALDL).

That's not the real problem... Im trying to avoid buying extra stuff like the eraser. I already have the 29c256 chips, and I would rather use those instead of trying to track down some 2732's and then find out they are bad...

$50 for a UV eraser and try Jameco for 2732A's.

Let me know if you find anything that will work...I'd like to use the 29C256 chips on my 8746 ECM, too. It sure is a shame that Moates doesn't want to take our money anymore....(ha)

I bought some 27C32 chips from Jameco, but my burner didn't recognize the brand they shipped me (National). Word of advice...check the brands your burner supports and make sure they ship you one that it will read before you buy anything. I already had to eat return shipping and a restocking fee on 4 chips that were useless to me.

what was the exact reason he stopped selling the TBI adapter?? If it was just because people couldn't make it stay in, then I would still like to have one... I promise I won't send it back

Maybe you have some that people sent back? Can I take one of those off your hands?
