Cant locate stock 1989 LB9 5speed bin old must be erased

Ive been trying to fix my GTA for months now and already have spent countless hours looking through search results here and I still havent been able to fix it.

Heres the skinny, SES light continually lit and will not give codes, fans always on obviously the engine is stuck in limp home mode.

Ive check grounds for the ECM and I get the correct 0 ohm reading, I have 12v supplied to the ecm, I bought a "working" 1227165 (my correct ecm btw) of ebay which produces the same results. All fuses are good.

Trying to get codes from the ecm I bypassed the ALDL and went straight to the wires behind the ECM in hopes to trigger the diagnostics mode with the wht/blk pin #A-9 with the blk/wht pin #A-12 to no avail.

I ordered a Zif adapter kit that came with 2 flash proms, a futurlec programmer and I successfully (at least what the programmer says) burned some arap bins in stacked form to allow use of 256 chip in 128 mode.

I even burned a APYP bin but nothing I do will get the ecm out of its open loop, constant SES light runnin, no code giving crack daze! The original prom id is ANYY-9379 which I cannot find anywhere on the dfi-efi or gm-ecm site probably cause the limited run of 1989 LB9 5speeds?

I love to at least get the ecm to output codes or get a stock bin correctly loaded on a chip and have the ecm use it but Im at a loss here as to where I can find a stock bin or something similar I can use to modify and how to modify it.

I bought this car for $1500 with a blown tranny and this ecm problem, a used tranny is in with a new clutch (easy fix there) but this ecm thing is driving me nutz!!!! Ive already sunk $800 into the car to get it on the road and I dont have alot of cash to burn, so any help figuring this out is much appreciated...

My Vin# 1G2FW21F3KL247512 if that helps

Don't know if this helps. . . I don't find ANYY as a valid BCC. It still may be, just don't know. Can you read the EPROM and post the bin? I can take alook-see and find out if it is close to being a MAF/165 bin. Would you know if this may be the stock MEMCAL? It just may be the wrong MEMCAL which would cause the problem you are having (always in limp).

ANZA is working almost perfectly! It idles around 1500 rpm's but the check engine light is now out, it now operates in diagnostic mode which btw reports only a 12 code so far . The fan came on at 225 F it was supposed to.

Im using a AT29C256 chip and I stacked the bin with GMECM edit but I cant help but think that it wasnt a completely good burn because when I load the stacked bin in GMECM edit it doesnt match the ANZA bin. Id post the bin but I dont know how to post a file here yet.

Good news is the ecm is good and its a programming issue now for sure! Thanks alot Mangus!

Man am I so relieved this was figured out....

the stacked bin wouldn't be the same as the original bin. the upper 16k would be the same, however.

in stacking, gmecm edit fills the "unused" portion of the stack with zeros, so a 16k bin in a 32k stack has the first 16k zeroed out, and the last 16k contains the bin. if you open the stacked bin and the original bin in ultraedit or the hex editor of your choice, you'll see what i mean.

if you later open the stacked bin in gmecm edit to *edit*, you'll find that everything is zeroed!

oh, and that your car idles at 1500 is very strange. what are your IAC counts? ANZA is a stock bin and at temp should be requesting an idle at 750. if your car is consistently idling at 1500, you should be getting a trouble code. strange!

The IAC counts are the stock values in the ANZA bin, actually the idle starts around 1100-1200 rpm and as it warms up it rises to around 1500. Something I didnt mention is the speedo is out as well which I believe should throw a code too?

The speedo has been out of commision since I put in the used T5, maybe this could be causing some problems.

I finally took the GTA on the highway and after 2 miles it lit the SES light. After returning home and scanning for codes I got the 24 VSS code which makes sense considering the speedo dont work.

After browsing the tech articles I finally stumbled upon prom identification info here at Thirdgen and I found this:

89 5.0-F M/Trans (M39), Fed, 3.08(Gu4) 16133478 3526APYX
89 5.0-F M/Trans (MK6), Fed, 3.45(GM3) 16133630 9375ANYX
89 5.0-F M/Trans (MK6), Calif, 3.45(GM3) 16133632 9379ANYY
89 5.0-F M/Trans (M39), Calif, 3.08(GU4) 16133988 9389ANZA

I have a Cali car it will be fun finding the original prom now. I guess yours was a cali with a 3.08 rear Mangus. Explains why the ANZA is working. What differences do the 3.08 and 3.45 cars have in the prom programming? Theories anyone?

This car seems to be migrating eastward

Idle problem fixed , attempted to set the minimum idle and the set screw had no control over it. The clip on the throttle linkage was open to far to bring the idle where it needed to be. I closed the clip far enough to choke out the engine and then proceeded to adjust using the set screw and things are good now!

Still have to learn the coding better to fine tune things and the engine needs a tune up badly, but the only code is 24 which I know whats causing that..

The GTA is one step closer to roadworthy now.

Thanks again Mangus!
