383 stroker motor

Im about to start up a 383 with 9.5:1 compression stroker motor with all emmisions eliminated on a speed density system. I have bin software as well as a pocket programmer. Im currently working on makeing some kind of scan tool either with craig moates software or other means. I understand most of the bin programming as far as flags, injector constants and what not. I will be useing a stock 350 bin that will be ordered from gmpartsdirect. Now I understand to make my stock prom I willl need to change ve tables as well as adjusting spark advance. My question is whats a good staring point to get my engine started for the first time? Should I change anything in the stock spark settings or anything else to start the engine for the first time?

You could start by sharing which ECU file and which bin you will be running. Odds are, someone has one on a 383 or hot 350 somewhere that would get you closer than a stock bin file would. I'm not saying run their file, but compare the stock bin to what they are running and see what they've changed. It also helps if you can email the person the bin file belongs to so that you can get a feel for what they've been through to get where they are.

I assume that you know you'll be tuning for a while to get your own combination done, right?

I was thinking useing the 1227730_8d.ecu. I wont know for sure what bin since Im waiting to order the memcal from Gmpartsdirect and its part # 16151348 I believe. Well I want a smooth running engine so whatever tuneing is required will be necessary. Im in no hurry on getting this running since this is really just a hobby project and not a daily driver car. Also im useing Compcams part# 12-268-4 which is about a gross valve lift of .480. Any advice is much appreciated.

My 383 runs fine with stock 305 injectors and a stock 350 bin. I suggest starting there and then tuning.

wow 305 injectors. Wouldnt that cause a lean condition which would be very bad.

Wow, 305 injectors. What do you have, like a 2" diameter by 6 foot intake tract?

Seriously, going in with a new motor. Make sure your mix is appropriate. Too rich and you wash out the rings. Too lean and you;re dead with detonation. Just take it easy until you're sure you have what you need fuel wise. Keep the timing mild to start with until you see where you're at. Anyting more than 36 degrees is not helpful.

Start the engine off gentle. Check your plugs. If they're white after a couple of miles, richen the crap out of it, maybe 20% across the board. If they start to get black, drop back 10%. When you get some tan action, then you can start playing the fine-tuner game...

Actually, 305 injectors flow more than 350 injectors. I know a couple who has a 383 vette with 305 injectors. They just drove from Kamloops, BC to Las Vegas, and the only problem they had was a worn cam from overrevving.

I took the same approach as Craig stated. I basically hacked the majority of the table together and just made sure I was close on the majority of the table and then figured Id fine tune once I was close across the tables. Im still rich at idle but my freakin injectors in my holley died. So Ive been waitin for a 2 weeks now for my new ones. Oh well the tbi is gonna go buh bye for an lt1 intake set up. Ive got about 30 bins so far but I got a lot of time left in fine tuning. Though Im running a bit bigger cam its 215/224 52x/52x lift lunati cam.
