Craig Moates Software Question...

Craig, or anyone else, do you know if there is a way to tell how much voltage and/or flow rate is being used by the fuel pump? I'm pretty sure my fuel pump is on it's way out, but I want to be able to check it first and be absolutely certain.

If it's making any noise to speak of, replace it. You could hook up an amp meter in series with the fuel pump supply voltage line. You could also hook up a pressure gauge to the fuel rail and see how quick it comes up when you key-on the car. If it ain't getting it up pretty quick that'd be reason for concern.

As for a way to monitor it from the ALDL, I don't think so. Unless your fuel pressure is generally low and your injectors are firing like crazy to make up the difference. That should be reflected in high BLMs though. That might clue you in.

Thanks Craig. What would be considered high BLMs (or what would be considered normal)? I've never really played with these numbers, so I don't have anything to relate to. And a stupid question...what does the BLM acronym stand for?

Block Learn Multiplier. If you take the BLM and divide it by 128, that is the correction factor that is being applied to your FI action to make up for stoichiometric biases seen in the O2 sensor readings.

Good numbers are like 125-133 range, should be average around 128. If you see average around 140, there's a problem. Not necessarily your FP, but it would be consistent.

Check your fuel pressure on the rail. That's what you need to do to verify pump action. Remove the vacuum line going to the FPR dome when checking it so it doesn't drift with TPS/vac.
