I am going to build a aldl interface. Does anyone know where to get this chip? Radio Shack can't get it. Is there another chip I can use beside this one?

Jameco.com is cheaper and has stock of that stuff. Digikey has more variety of stuff though. But for small orders Jameco rules..

If you read the spec sheets on the chip it will explain to you what the different suffixs mean. You're looking for a DIP package chip. Things like temperature range and voltage tolerances are up to you, but dont matter in the operation of the circuit usually (speaking in general terms here.) I *think* in maxim that would be a MAX232ECP, but you need to check in the spec sheet.
