Eprom/memcal Trax conflict

The EPROM in my '87 IROC doesn't look like the pic noted in "Trax's introduction to prom burning article." Is it because the one noted (shown) is from a '90 model? My PROM has a long and wide card (not very thick)with several strips that secure as a contact into the (memcal?) ....I hope i described this right. any ideas?? I'm trying to get this all sorted out before plunging into it ie., idea of cost, skill level, time...etc.

Traxxs memcal probaly was for speed density. You are making the right choice burning yourself.Aftermaket chips are a crap shoot. You have to know how far the stock calibration is off before any changes are made. This is done by scaning then reburning until you get it all dialed in.But as traxion stated it's about $200 to do it yourself.

Sounds like yours has an aftermarket adapter setup. Both my '88 (MAF) and '91 (SD) MEMCALs look identical on the outside.

Should I assume I wouldn't have to go through all of the extra steps, due to mine being an '87? The extra sounds a bit much.

Stan

BTW....Thanks for your responses!!

You can get a "breakaway header" and use that instead of soldering a zif. That is in traxion's article though. There is some chaps that make the modded memcal for purchase. You don't need to do nothing but order one though. But soldering a zif is not that hard.I think you got confused w/ Traxx pics of memcal because the cover was off.
