411 pcm swap question with intake/distributor specific issues

A good buddy of mine is finishing up the 411 pcm swap on my 85 with a stealth ram (keep this intake in mind for later question) i am running the low resolution 4x reluctor (from a vortec engine) wheel for the crank position and i am running the vortec distributor for the cam positioning sensor as well as spark distribution. My problem is that the stealth ram plenum is interfering with the distributor, not allowing for correct initial timing of 0*. Is there a small cap distributor available that will work with the 411 pcm? I would rather not ditch the stealth ram, and swapping to the 24x coil on plug system may put a hold on this project. thanks

It seems to me that this would work but I have no experience with it and they don't specify 1X in the docs though it looks like it.

That unit will not work in my case, I need a distributor.

Yep. I think you're going to need to add coil packs..

Re: 411 pcm swap question with intake/distributor specific issues

I spoke with a guy today who has successfully ran a dual sync distributor with a 0411 PCM without issues. He also told me that essentially I can run a standard small cap HEI distributor (only to distribute spark, not using any of the internal electronics) and disable the code in the PCM, Doing this, I will lose sequential injector function and will be running on batch fire, without issue. Keep in mind my setup is NON-Coil On Plug. Does this sound right???

I had the same issue with my ramjet intake. How much space do you have ? Post a picture. The fuel inlet on the ramjet was stopping me from turning the dizzy. Were is the fuel inlet on the stealth ram fuel rails? I got by by making a custom distributor cap but ultimately I got it dialed in perfect at 0 offset and by relocating my fuel inlet to the center of the rail were the test port is, and that gave me enough space to stick the stock cap back on they're.with no interference. Might want to try stabbing the distributor in a few times with a tooth retarded and see if that gives you enough space to set the offset. Trial and error every time seeing how close you can get to 0. No point in running the 0411 in batch fire. Whole point of the 0411 is the sequential fire.

Re: 411 pcm swap question with intake/distributor specific issues

I’m running a Holley Stealth Ram. The intake base and fuel rails make it about impossible to rotate the distributor enough to get to 0*. And stabbing a tooth off in either direction put us way to far out from 0*. Sequential isn’t the only benefit (marginal) of the 0411 though. At WOT sequential turns to batch anyhow🤷🏻‍♂️

I see that the stealth ram already has a fuel crossover pipe in the front so no real need for the one at the back. I see that's were your having interference problems. I would cap those ends of the rails off with the proper npt plugs and that should give you enough space.

Re: 411 pcm swap question with intake/distributor specific issues

i posted pics with the crossover in the rear, and not in the rear. the issue is the rails and and the lower manifold. there is absolutely no clearance for the vortec style distributor.

I believe you need to tune this. Other boards suggest setting this as something called CMP retard offset.
