Having problems with Moates software
I had a problem awhile ago with the Moates s/w on my car, I had sent the AKM
cable
back to Andrew Mattei and he speedily soldered in the 10K Ohm resistor needed
for MAF cars and checked the cable to make sure it was working properly.
I got
it back about a month or so ago and I am still having the same problem.
It
seems as though the cable is doing it's job as the message is being sent
out
to the car but as soon as I start pressing the '1' key to connect it says
"No
Link, Try Again". Now I thought maybe it was a problem with the computer
I was
using. So I got a different laptop and downloaded the Moates S/W again from
the site, still the same problem. So I figured okay, maybe something is
wrong
with my car, so I swapped in another ECM into my car...same thing. Okay,
maybe
there is something wrong with my ALDL port itself, so I tried it on my friends
car, same thing, "No Link, Try Again". Okay, WTF?! So to date, that is 2
different Cars, 3 different ECMs (2 '165, 1 '730) and 2 different laptops
(one
using Windoz 95, and the other Windoz 2000). So I decided to let the Computer
Gods that work on the network on the Air Force Base take a look at both
my
laptops for possible Com Port interruptions or anything that would interfere
with the operation of the software. Both guys are stumped as to what could
be
the problem. They suggested that maybe it was the scanware not recognizing
the
ECM since the laptop(s) were setup properly. So I allowed them to see the
download site for the Moates S/W, they took a look, followed the directions,
and downloaded it again. So we tried again and "No Link, Try Again". They
are
stumped and think that it might be the Moates S/W causing the conflict
somewhere.
Does anyone know if there are any other versions of free scanware that I
can
download that will work with the Andrew Mattei Cable??
Or are there any suggestions??
Thanks,
Brian P

I had similiar problems to when I tryied using the lastest version on Craig's site. 8.5 I think, or something like that. The previous version, which I think was 6.45 (again I apologize if I have the versions wrong) I had a couple minor little problems here and there, but for the most part, it work beautifully. Since my car is parked and in pieces right now, I figured I would worry about it in the spring. I'm curious to see if Craig has any solutions though.
