Ecm

Can some help me i was using a paper clip to read codes in my 88 z28 305 tpi and I started the car while the paper clip was still in the terminal is that bad for the ecm

Not exactly. I mean sure - it's always collecting data. But the paperclip doesn't change the data being collected by the ECM. The paperclip puts the ECM into field service mode - which means a lot of things change in the software and the engine may run differently. It's not going to do anything so crude as *breaking* or *frying* the ECM. It's just a diagnostic tool not a grenade pin.
