Non V.A.T.S steering column in V.A.T.S car

Car: 1989 GTA trans am
Engine: L98 350 tpi
Transmission: 700r4 built
Axle/Gears: 3.45 4th gen 10 bolt
Non V.A.T.S steering column in V.A.T.S car
Hey guys I got a 1989 GTA trans am. It was being parted out and i got to it after the steering column had been pulled . I have installed a 1985 Trans am column in the GTA . Im going to be trying to start in tomorrow after installing a new distributor . does anyone know of any issue that will come up ? Thanks for any help .

The column isn't the issue that I'm aware of. It's the key cylinder. You need the key cylinder that supports VATS. If VATS in your 89 has been disabled, then no problem. If not, you need to match the key to the cylinder for the right ohms.

just replace the key cylinder with a non-vats one and do the starter enable relay bypass and you'll be good to go.
