Fuel Injector Interchangeability

Fuel Injector Interchangeability
Someone out there knows the answer.....
For 5.0L TPI, are the 1985-86 Bosch "RP" injectors #11710872 the same as 1987-88 Bosch "RP" code injectors #11711960?
By same, I mean same pressure and performance. If different, what's different?
Thanks

Re: Fuel Injector Interchangeability
They are both the same flow rate at the same pressure..just different part numbers.
You realize that these injectors are the multecs correct? They flow 22lb. You need 19lb injectors for a 305

Re: Fuel Injector Interchangeability
The info I show came straight from a 1982-1992 GM F-body catalog, found here: http://www.gmpartswiki.com/query
Enter 17110872 and scroll down till you see the catalog, then look in Group 3.300. My own personal 1988 F-body catalog calls out 17111960 for "5.0F"
I have 1988 305 TPI and it does have the "RP" on the injectors. I understand these are Bosch, whereas the others are Lucas.
I'm not versed in injectors, so not sure what "multecs" is. Could you enlighten me please? It's entirely possible that the previous owner put in different injectors. what other fuel system changes would be required if 19lb injectors were swapped with 22lb? higher pressure on fuel regulator?
Thanks

Re: Fuel Injector Interchangeability
Ok, those injectors are not bosch or lucas, they are actually Rochester/Delphi injectors.
If they came with the car they are the old multecs. These injectors were made for the TPi applications from 1985-approx 1992. They are extremely problematic and prone to coil failure. To put it bluntly, they're junk, and unfortunately we usually tell people to discard them. Can you run 22's in a 305? Yes, however you will experience poor performance as the stock replacement for a 305 are 19lb injectors and for the 350 you need 22's.

So you're saying the Rochester Products ("RP") injectors (I presume that's what RP stand for) are not manufatured by Bosch, but instead by Multec?
I had a fuel leak coming somwhere on the fuel rail. Some time ago I had replaced the O-rings, but leak persists. There is either a finish issue in the aluminum injector bores of the manifold or rail, or something else.
Have injectors ever been known to spring a leak? I was planning to redo the induction system to solve the mystery leak. That's why I'm asking about the injectors here.
Thanks

Re: Fuel Injector Interchangeability
That is correct. The injectors are not made by bosch I believe they were a Delphi product. Yes, definitely injectors can leak however if they do it's from the bottom of the injector. Any time an injector leaks from the rail side, it's either due to an oring or installation issue. If they are not aligned properly they could leak from up top
