Log File - Do my sensors look ok?

Hello All,

I used Datamaster to collect the attached file. I have sent it to the company I purchased my chip from, they are going to review it & send back any sort of changes that are needed.

Separate of the actual chip programming, I'm wondering if the attached file says anything about my sensors? I have a slight "hesitation" at partial throttle - not sure if it's a true hesitation, not sure how else to describe it. But if I'm cruising along and trying to maintain a speed & barely have my foot on the gas, the RPM's will sometimes start jumping, from like 1,100 to 1,400 and back. When I push the pedal down hard, it's fine and it appears to be fine at idle.

I have zero experience with data logging, so I'm not sure if what I'm seeing is normal. My concern lies with my TPS. There are two items that stand out to me: (1) there appear to be long stretches where the values for the TPS - both volts and % open - don't change. Of course, if I'm stopped at a red light or something I wouldn't expect them to but I think there are times when I was moving but the values didn't change. And (2) I wasn't driving crazy or anything, but my TPS % rarely went above 10%. There are few instances where it when higher, but it was mostly pretty low - again, not sure if that is normal or not.

I'm hoping someone with more experience can review the attached and give me their opinion. Thanks.

What does the TPS% and TPS voltage read at WOT?

You can log TPS with engine not running. Key on. As you depress the throttle you should see linear consistent change in % and V's.

Re: Log File - Do my sensors look ok?

I'll do that, either later tonight or tomorrow. The engine is still new & I'm breaking it in, I don't want to get too crazy yet. Doing with the key off seems like a good idea.

Dumb question...but other than what the TPS% reads and/or just knowing when I'm all the way on the gas, is there a way to tell when I was at WOT through the log file?

In the current file, it looks like the closest I got to WOT was when the TPS% was at 94.5% - at this spot, the voltage was 3.59V.

I ended up taking about 10 points and graphing them, the relationship between % and volts was very linear. However, using that line I found that at 100% throttle, the voltage would only be 3.74 V. I know that you'll never get to 5.0, but 3.74 seems low to me.

Re: Log File - Do my sensors look ok?

I usually start logging w just key ON to get nominal values of the sensors, ie O2, TPS, MAP etc. If the baseline value is good, I assume the sensor is in good shape unless something else pops up.

However, using that line I found that at 100% throttle, the voltage would only be 3.74 V.
Check to see if TB butterfiles are open 100%.

I believe TPS is a 0-4.5V devise.

Re: Log File - Do my sensors look ok?

I will check butterflies this weekend.

I'm going to run a key on, engine off data log later tonight. I'll post the results.

Re: Log File - Do my sensors look ok?

Check the grey wire going to the tps this is the reference voltage. With the throttle at wot check the feedback blue wire you will have real close to reference voltage.

Re: Log File - Do my sensors look ok?

I'm not able to check the wires right now (no way to hold my hood up), but I did run a key on, engine off data log.

At 100% TPS, the volts are either 4.00 or 4.01. That seems lower than I expected, but not sure if it points to a problem or not.

Re: Log File - Do my sensors look ok?

sounds like a bad ecm, how is the 5v ref on the tps or mat.

Re: Log File - Do my sensors look ok?

Mat?

I couldn't check the voltage at the TPS - because of my new fiberglass hood, I had to remove the hood pistons and I don't have any kind of prop rod to hold it up. I'm hoping to get my wife to help me tomorrow night.

If the ECM is bad...is it that everything or just the ECM? Can I use my aftermarket chip and the memcal I have or would those be bad, too?

Re: Log File - Do my sensors look ok?

The ecm has has a couple 5v output references , The mat ( manifold air temperature sensor ) The cts (coolant temperature sensor ) the map ( Manifold air temperature sensor). The output of the reference voltages is not effected bye your memcal. You should verify them at the ecm but if not 5v you should be real close not 4v with a volt ohm meter.

Re: Log File - Do my sensors look ok?

Is your TPS adjustable? My prior TB used an adjustable my current is not. Adjustment ioss for closed throttle idle approx .5V.

As TP said the MAP sensor should show 5V key on 100 MAP. The IAT also is 5V I recall. I thought TPS was 4.5V? actually I read is is 5Vref from ECU but Signal can be 4.5-5.0 at WOT. If butterfly is fully open 4.5V is OK.

Re: Log File - Do my sensors look ok?

Okay, did some work today. I think I'm okay...

I checked the voltage at TPS - it is exactly 5.0 volts. I then checked the voltage on the blue wire at WOT and got the same I was getting on the ECM - 4.01 volts. But then...

My brother came out, took a look at it and said "are you sure you're actually getting WOT?" He grabbed the throttle linkage, pushed it harder than I did and we both heard a small scrapping/popping noise. Not like something broke, but moved. I then re-checked the voltage at the blue wire, it is now at 4.52 at WOT. The butterflies are also fully open. I remember when I installed this TB (it was brand new), it was very tight and hard to move - I'm thinking that it was getting hung up and not moving all the way.

Anyway, based on my results I think the ECM & TPS are okay, yes?

looks good but the scraping pop sound. You can smack your brother if he stretched your throttle cable out
