Will this 749 ECM work?

Just like the title says, I need a 749 ECM for a MAF conversion to SD with turbo build.

The sticky states "A 1227749 ECM from a 87-90 turbo sunbird, 88 quad 4 car, or 91-93 syclone/typhoon" but there is no way to tell if that is the case from the ebay listings. So really will any 749 ecm work? if not will some one please enlighten me.

Thanks

Re: Will this 749 ECM work?

why are you looking at a 749 is this on a v6 ? The 1227749 is w/ one missing quad driver, w/ additional injector driver FET vs the 1227730. The link you posted if it comes with a memcal will not be $58 it will be from a 1988 2.3 4cyl AMDD if included.

Re: Will this 749 ECM work?

the 1227749 can un 4 p/h 2 tbi 6 high impedence injectos and 8 high impednece injectors or you can use a 1227730 ecm for the conversion

The '749 for the Syclone/Typhoon never came with the $59 code, it came with the $58. He could probably pick up a memcal over on the Syclone/Typhoon boards if he needs one, but I agree, he should just go with the '7730 and call it a day...

I would usually agree, but there is one question that needs to be asked first. Is this for a V6 or V8 application, and if so, will it have low impedance injectors?

If V6 or V8 and low impedance injectors, I would use a '7749 with the injector driver upgrade and proper flyback resistor modification. Along with proper pinout configuration to have the peak 'n' hold function work properly.

If the injectors are high impedance, the more common '7730 will work fine.

Re: Will this 749 ECM work?

any 7749 is just like any other 7749, unless it's been purposely opened up and modded by the end-user, but that doesn't happen very often i would think.

the MEMCAL (which isn't specifically mentioned in the ebay ad) would be an important thing to consider though.

Thanks for all the input, short answer is V8 with low impedance injectors. I have a built 350 that I am planning a turbo build with a goal of 600 to 700 rwhp. I was planing on low impedance injectors to improve drivability and I still need to pass smog in the state of california (which is why I havent just gone and bought a fast system etc). Anyhow low impedance injectors, wide band, dyno tune, etc should help me make for a smogable IROC that has good street manners and can perform well on the track. I was tuning the current setup (without forced induction) with the stock TPI using a MAF, but the MAF just wont work well. I was hoping to take advantage of being able to control an electronic waist gate so I can have multiple tunes (gas, E84, valet mode) I have an emulator setup so I currently run the car off a laptop but have chip buring stuff around my place if I can still find it lol.

I spaced on the memcal , how hard is it to find the correct memcal?

Re: Will this 749 ECM work?

by correct memcal what do you mean ? There was never a $58 V8 memcal. You might find a good starting .bin at code59.org . You can modify a v6 memcal to work if you don't care about the knock sensor or use any $8d memcal from a l98 1227730 or 1227727 ecm if you want the knock retard to work.

couple of things to make note of here:

using a $58 MEMCAL will allow limp-home mode to work(kinda), can do the mod for cylinder select and you could transplant a proper knock filter into it.

starting with a $8D MEMCAL, limp-home will be a joke, but you will have the correct cylinder select and knock filter.

Again thank you all, I was mostly concerned about the knock filter which would be nice to have work right. I figured limp mode would probably be more of a liability so I think that I would prefer to not even have it. Reading the link to the other posts it looks like I can effectivly disable the knock sensor in the prom so an incorrect knock filter wouldnt be a game ender. But it seems to me it would probably be good to have the correct knock filter so maybe a $8D MEMCAL would be what do go with.

Since the 749 is close too the 730 a external esc module may work. see attachment in post 62 of this link.

Re: Will this 749 ECM work?

Previous to my XFI setup I did the 165 MAF to the 7730 to the 7749 swap.. No-one is talking about the pin swapping on the wire harness.. And then a couple of wires like the ALDL and a couple others to go to the 7749. The knock sensor is a common knock sensor.. Go to any parts store and ask for a 91 camaro v8 knock sensor. It is different than a 88's. I think I had the AUJP MEM-CAL, using the $59 Mask from code59.net. Don't use the $58.. You will pull your hair out with it.. I purchased the Moates Autoprom, G1 adapter and the chip.. It is not a quick or easy process and takes a little time to tune but there are excel programs that are very good and can actually get a decent tune with 4 or 5 easy runs. And the swap to AUJP, don't forget to shut off the VATS in the progam or it WON'T start..

Re: Will this 749 ECM work?

How are you going to make a 700HP Turbo v8 that is "smog" (C.A.R.B) compliant?

I'm not even sure the '749/$58 code has working emissions/smog pump. EGR *might* be fixed in $59.

'749/'730 won't drive 8 low-z injectors.

It's not only possible, but has been done. It's not overly difficult to have the emissions equipment installed, and have a clean idle, along with clean 40 km/hr tail pipe emissions.

There is an EGR patch for $58 used with a V8, which has been integrated in to $59.

Actually the '7749 will drive 8 low impedance injectors, with a change to the sense resistors, and injector drivers.

So he's going to run a C.A.R.B EO approved Turbo, turbo manifolds, cam, etc ?

I'm not talking about tuning it so the HC and CO levels are low, I'm talking about CALIFORNIA...

Yeah, but I didn't get the impression he was looking to bust out the soldering iron.

This seems too much like a trolling responce.

Yeah, but I didn't get the impression he was looking to bust out the soldering iron.

Well, whether he wants to or not, he's going to have to. Besides, your reply was that a '7749 [i]won't] run 8 low-Z injectors, when in fact it can.

Re: Will this 749 ECM work?

Yes any 749 will work, but as stated you'll have to crack it open and change it for low z injectors. And you'll also have to wire it up like a turbo sunbird for the injector part. I've been running this way for 3 years running code 59 with wideband control and wouldn't have it any other way.
