16147060 rpm signal

Hello,
In my 1991 454SS truck with 4L80E and 16147060 I have ditched the tbi injection and installed a Edelbrock Pro-Flo 2 injection system and it includes a differend distributor(large cap hei with hall efect sensor) so all the stock plugs are unused exept for the temp sensor and the tps sensor.
That way I thought I can keep contol the 4L80E instead of buying a expenive controller.
The tranny works ok and goes into overdrive but not lockup so in my search I found out that the 16147060 pcm needs some sort of rpm reading to make it lock the converter.
Does anyone know how I should do that ?
I can take a rpm reading from the distributor hence my rpm gauge is working corect.
Thanks in advance

You'll have to use an adapter that can take the coil connection and create a signal that is safe for the PCM to have input to it. IIRC Howell efi used to make that adapter.

Why didn't you just tune the stock PCM?

I meant, why did you go with the Edlebrock EFI over just tuning the OEM ECM?

Re: 16147060 rpm signal

Do you have more info on that adapter?
I stepped up to the mpfi becouse it can see a 2 bar map sensor and it has a 1000 cfm tb.
A world of difference with a big block and supercharger.

Re: 16147060 rpm signal

I decided to use a switch with a light build in to control lockup.
I use the F and A conection at the ALDL plug for now until I have found a way.

Re: 16147060 rpm signal

There are 4 wires into the module from the PCM on a normal 7 pin EST style module for a GM product. To make the stock PCM register an RPM signal you must ground the low signal to the module and the high signal wire needs to go the tach output on the HEI distributor. I have done this several times and never had an issue.

Also keep in mind for the transmission to shif correctly the PCM needs to be hooked to the TPS, MAP, and CTS sensors.

Re: 16147060 rpm signal

Great news !
You say ground the low signal to the module, but grounding it any place near the distributor be ok ? or does it really have to be the module itself ?
I am going to try it today and use a scaning software to see if the pcm sees rpm.
Thanks man !

Re: 16147060 rpm signal

I just can not make it work that way.
I got the TPS, MAP, and CTS sensors hooked up.
I am used to the manual lockup switch bud really like it to make it automatic.
