Decoding an ecm sticker.

Hey guys. I've had this ecm for a long time now. Probably about 12 or 13 years. Bought from ebay for a spare. I know its for my 89 iroc with a 350 tpi. Service # is 1227165. What I dont know is what are the other #'s that are on the ecm. Below the service # is 868161. Next to that is M711632657. Below that is 16068161. I think that is the gm part #. Off to the side on the edge of the sticker is letters ABWN. Does anyone know what these #'s and letters mean and what they tell you. There is a bar code on the bottom but they are the same #'s as the ones under the service # but all in line with each other. Right now I have an autozone reman ecm in my car and was thinking about putting this one in to see if its still works. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Decoding an ecm sticker.

ABWN is the BCC code/chip/bin number. If it's the same as yours your good to go. If differant just keep your chip/memcal.

Re: Decoding an ecm sticker.

Thanks. Are you talking about the ABWN code matching the prom code. I know it wont match. I think my prom has a code of something like AUJP or something like that. I havent looked at it in a while so I cant remember. So if the codes dont match, will this ecm work for my car even though it's a 1227165 service # which is used on the 350 tpi cars? Could having the code on the ecm being different than the prom cause any problems?

Re: Decoding an ecm sticker.

I looked on this site and found out what this ecm probably came out of. According to this site, ABWN code is from an 87 iroc with a 350 tpi with a m39 auto trans and a 3.27 gear. My iroc prom code should be an ANYJ and not the AUJP. AUJP is for an 90-91 firebird with a md8 trans and 350 tpi. Still need to look at the prom I have in my car now. With the ABWN code ecm, will it still work fine for my 89 iroc? I know in 87, the 350 tpi had a cold start injector which on my car, it deleted in 89. Is there any issues that could cause problems using this ecm or should I try to find one with the correct code?

Re: Decoding an ecm sticker.

The ECM is the same for your car and can be used. The Memcal/prom inside (ABWN)
will not work with your car because of the 9th injector deletion that you mentioned. It can be reprogrammed to your broadcast code (ANYJ) or the newer APYN or newer yet ANJL. Any of those three memcals with those broadcast codes will run your car.

Re: Decoding an ecm sticker.

Thanks for the info. I just went down to look at my prom in my car. The code on the prom is AUJL. I looked on this site and I didnt see a listing for an AUJL for a camaro or firebird. The car runs good. I guess I have the wrong prom for my car. What kind of issues could this cause if any? Should I start looking for the correct prom? Kinda of weird about the prom though. When I bought the car in 96, it had an ADS super chip in it from the previous owner. I bought the car from a chevy dealership and I bought a factory prom from there parts department and this is what they ordered for me. Guess they got the wrong prom.

Sorry I had a typo ANJL should have been AUJL which is correct for your car. Some codes have minor flaws and get superceded and and others can have been done to handle certain conditions but bottom line is yours is just fine and probably the latest.

Re: Decoding an ecm sticker.

Thanks for the info. I did a google search and the AUJL chip is for an 89 iroc with the 350 tpi and 2.77 gear which I have. Everything is correct. Now all i have to do is try out this ecm that I have and see if it still works.
