USB ALDL cable + WinALDL = no data
Well this is frustrating. I bought a cable from http://www.aldlcable.com/ (the OBD1 USB cable on their front page). Hooked it up to my laptop's USB port. Checked the windows Device Manager and it says it's running on COM3. (Running Windows7 if that matters)
Set WinALDL for COM3 port. Restart the program. It says "OK". Choose the '165 ECM in the list. Turn the ignition key to RUN and then start it up.
No data flows in either normal mode or the 10K resister mode. Car seems to run as if nothing is hooked up in normal mode. Runs a little lumpy when the cable is set in 10K resister mode.
Car is a 1989 GTA with 5.7L TPI as mentioned in my profile. Stock computer chip. I did replace the ECM a few years back with an AC Delco '165 box from RockAuto.
Nothing comes up on WinALDL after hitting the log button. All cells are blank or zero (RPM, temperature etc). I know the ALDL port under the dash works because I have one of those $20 glorified paperclip devices that tells you if you have any codes set. And that works.
Do I have a bad cable? Or am I doing something wrong?

I would try Tuner Pro RT, with the proper ADX file. At th every least you can verify the cable in Tuner Pro RT as well, and that should eliminate the cable as being an issue.
Personally I haven't had much success with WinALDL, other than on '7747 ECMs.

Got it to work in the end. Switched it from 2400 baud to 4800 and everything started reading.
