Hi!

We have DIY-Diacom-compatible-ALDL Interface, ALDL Connector to Parallel port.
Some days ago our diagnostic laptop crashed and right now it is being processed to recycling

Now we don't want to spend another 20euros for an outdated Laptop with bad batteries, so we cannot "diagnose+drive".

I've found adapters for USB/Parallel Port.
Has someone tried one of those already?

I think it should work.
At the moment I have Windows7 x64 installed, Diacom starts and runs, and it doesn't even crash. But without a connection to the ALDL interface.
Don't know if it would connect.
Maybe the connector works with the program "Dosbox" which has USB compatibility.


Anyone knows more about that?

I used a PCMIA to parallel. First one I returned as would not communicate. Dont know why. this worked well....http://transdigital.net/

 

some of PCMIA are not COM port(serial) they just try to pretend to be because most of new applications do not need more

 

pcmcia is not possible with my notebook, it uses the newer cardbus system.

 

there are express cards with serial port but i have never checked if they work properly

I have a brand new Dell 15R notebook computer that I would like to be able to use on with my Diacom+ software.

I have VMware so I can run any operating system I need to. I could also set it up to dual boot if needed.

But the question is how to get the software to communicate without a parallel port. My notebook has no slots so I have to use a USB/parallel cable converter of some sort.

Help will be appreciated.

 

I used a PCMIA card to parallel. One of two I purchaed worked. I have a post out there from about 2 years ago.

 

My new Dell notebook doesn't have a PCMCIA slot. It only has USB and SATA ports.

I still need to somehow put a USB to parallel conversion cable on it and make the operating system think it's LPT1. But, I don't know how to do that or whether it's possible.

 

I am confused. I dont think there is a parallel to usb convertor? My EMULATOR was parallel. so I needed to create a parallel port. My dalalogging ALDL was to serial. I needed a USB to serial adapter. All worked well.

 

The Diacom software communicates to a parallel port, not a serial port. And, yes, they do make USB to parallel cables. But, Diacom runs in DOS. So, the problem is to get a DOS program to use that USB port as LPT1. That's what I don't know how to do.

I'm wondering if it is just better for me to buy the Moates hardware and use the TunerPro software with it and forget about trying to get my old Diacom software to work on the newer hardware.

My LT1 engine is controlled by a '94 Firebird ODB1 ECM. It works great. I had it programmed by Fuel Injection Specialties in San Antonio.

The only reason I want my Diacom working is for troubleshooting any problems down the road. Everything is fine right now.

The old notebook computer I used for this has a dead hard drive, dead batteries and a keyboard with keys failing. I just bought a new Dell 15R notebook computer with a Core I5 processor for general family use and want to have it work on my LT1 so I can dump my old notebook computer.
