Megasquirt 1 2.2 right for me?

I will be doin heads cam miniram and whole drivetrain rebuil/upgrade. Will the megasquirt 1 be good enough for me? I heard that it is fairly easy to instal if you know wiring. It goes practically all where the computer already is, no wiring in the engine? I love that idea and it will tune everything I need to get my car running well? I searched but everyone has a diff setup on their car. I hate wasting money sorry bout all the questions. ha

kowboy,

I run a MS-II on my car.

What in particular are you trying to control?

The big advantage of the MS-II at the moment is the ability to control the stock stepper motor for idle control. Post back with some more specifics!

Okay I have made up my mind to run a rear turbo setup. I think it will be lots of fun. Later on or soon i will be doing some heads and a cam. Maybe vortec heads and a moderate cam. but the turbo is the first setup

Re: Megasquirt 1 2.2 right for me?

The Megasquirt is a MAP based speed density setup. You can also run a Ford MAF with it.

I would stay away from the v. 2.2 board. The version 3.0 board is much better. It has flyback damping on the injector drivers, as well as an existing ignition output circuit and much better overvoltage protection, and even noise suppression. You can do everything with the 2.2 board, but you end up building a lot of circuits yourself, and it is not as reliable (just look at the differences in the heatsinks!)

The MS-I processor can do everything you need, if you dont need to use the stock idle control motor.

If you value the idle control, get the MS-II. It is not that much more expensive and under active development, whereas the Ms-I has pretty much reached the limit of its programming potential.

Okay thankyou. I will get a ms-II then. I will need the wiring harness though right? Anything else besides buying the MS-II

Re: Megasquirt 1 2.2 right for me?

I found that the Stimulator was very useful for testing the circuits as I built them. I also bought a short wiring harness.

I ordered from DIY autotune. It was a very good experience, so I can recommend them highly.

Re: Megasquirt 1 2.2 right for me?

Well MS seemed like it was a easy install. It just plugs into the existing ecm and i just tune with my laptop. I put some wiring in and im good to tune. It was a good price too from what I have seen. If anyone has a good reliable source btw i would be happy
