Code 34 and 44

There might be post on this but anytime I am searching the boards no matter what word I use I get no matches found from any sections. I need help with these codes 34 and 44. I have a 1986 IROC with 5.0 TPI automatic. The service engine light comes on at random times. Mostly when the car has been running awhile and when I am stopped at a light for instance. Usually once I start moving again it goes off. I doesn't happen everytime I drive it. When it does come on the car starts to sputter and I have to put it in nuetral and rev the engine up. Lately however it has stalled out and I can't start it. I have let it sit for up to 20 mins and it starts. I am getting and new battery because it doesn't seem to be holding much power. I don't think the battery is the cause just that it has died from sitting too long and been recharged a couple of times, I didn't get to drive the car much the past year. I looked up the codes but am not sure what I should be really looking to replace or inspected for problems. If anybody can help or lend suggestions it would be great. I want to be able to drive it worry free for the most part of course.

Re: Code 34 and 44

code 34 is MAF sensor and code 44 is lean exhaust so either replace or try to clean the MAF then both codes should go away

Re: Code 34 and 44

I have this problem with my 88 305 tpi 5 speed. Sometimes Ill start my car and it will run for only 10 sec then stall. Ill restart it and it will run fine with light on for 34 maf sensor. Ive had this intermittent problem lately but I heard somewhere that certain manufactures have the wrong blueprints for the maf sensor causing an erroneous code 34, still havent replaced mine had problem for 3 years. Previous owner supplied reciepts showing maf, ecu, and burnoff relay replaced.
