smells rich at idle....gen7

i have a 383 in my 67 camaro.i am running acell dfi gen7 to control fuel and timing.i a have the lm1 hooked setup with the dfi as my wideband o2...the AF ratio on the lm1 reads 15:1(thats where i have it set),but the thing still smells rich...what would cause this???i would think that at that ratio it shouldn't smell like it does...any suggestions???the plugs look good and the timing map is around 17 at idle...any help would be appreciated..

I'd need more info on the engine....

17 at idle- stock gm efi cals have more than that.
15-1 afr- depending on the cam, that could still be too rich based on how the wb see's things.

too lean often smells "rich," but lean burns your eyes and throat a little more. Have you done the "free air calibration"

Re: smells rich at idle....gen7

That cam isn't very big for a 383.
What's the idle kpa and rpm?
You did start with a base map based on 30 lb injectors?

At normal operating temp.
One at a time.
I'd add 5 deg SA in idle area. Cylinder head design will have an effect on this too.
Pull 10% fuel from idle VE.
You might need 15.5 to 16 indicated afr to clean it up.
Also if you have old gas it will stink too.
