Newbie Project... What ECU's can be used to run a Turboed Engine

Hi,

I have a College project that involved retrofitted/modifying an ECU to run a Turbo V6 engine or a Turbo 4 cyl.

What ECU's would be able to do it???

Car: GTA -89
Engine: Blown 415"
Transmission: 4L80E
Axle/Gears: Strange 12-bolt
1227749 or 1227730 with $58 code (from a syclone V6 Turbo 91-93 I think..)

I also have some friends that have the -165ECM with modified 808code and turbo or blower in the car, but both setups are on V8's....

Can you modify an ECU from a supercharged car to control a turbocharged car?

EG. what about using a 16141470 or 16183247? on a turbo engine?

Can they run a MAP or doe they have to run a MAF?

If you use a 1227730 or a 1227749 ECM with the $58code in the PROM you will be fine. The $58code is from a Turbo V6engine and can control WG and so on, so It would be great for your "project".

gta324,

Thanks for helping me look at different ECU's for my project (which is on very tight budget).

I curious if you know if it is possible to get a 1227808 ECU to control a Turbo engine. The 1227808 ECU's are like door stops here... Can pick them up cheap.

If possible, what would be required? and what steps would be needed etc...

Cheers,

A 1227808 from -88 Australian Holden with $5D code?

I now a 2 guys here that are using the $5D code in their 1227165ECM WITH a V8 not sure about using for a V6 never looked at the bin...

1 has a blower (schwitzer)
1 has a turbo, his car can be seen here https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=217973

Send a PM to Joby and ask for the modified $5D bin to use a 2bar MAP. What he has done it cut all the MAP values to half to get it to accept 2bar MAP but looses some resolution...

What you'lll need is a
- 808ECM with all std sensors.
- EEPROM, Adapter, burner from www.moates.net
- PROM tuning software http://www.supportfitness.com/mark/tunerpro/ (free) or www.Tunercat.com
- A 2bar MAP
- A ALDL cable and a laptop to scan adn software for that (ask Joby..)

and the time to tune it....

I just have a quick question about using the $58 code in a 730.
What would you be able to control? Why not go to the 749 ecm?
I am looking at putting a turbo on my third gen and am curious as to what I would be able to do with just the $58 code and the stock 730 ecm. Thanks!

Do a seach on DIY-board about $58 Faq and you will find alot of info...

Some things that I can think of now is..

everything except
- egr and AIR

Open up a $58 bin file and look around and you will se what you can use, the only reason to go 749 is if you are going p/H style injectors...
