lt1 ecm

Hey guys
has anyone atempted to use a lt1 sequntial ecm on their 3gen cars/1stgen motor? the reason i brought this up is because if you can it might be easir and cheaper to use an edit program than burn chips. While were at it has anyone adapted a crank trigger like msd to run with their 730 ecm?

If I'm not mistaken there were 3 different ecms/pcms used with Lt1s. One ecm used the memcal/chip type, and then the pcms were flash.
There's real time program editing available for the chip type ecms. For the flash ecms/pcms, you have to reprogram the computer, and that can take several minutes.

As long as you can trigger the oem ignition module then you can use a 730. There might be a little timing inaccuracy because of the electronics, but if you tune to what makes the engine happy vs tuning to some alledged magic amount of timing, it shouldn't matter.

Hi Grumpy, thanks for the reply.
With reguards to real time editing for chip type ecm's, where would i find more info on the subject?
What do you think the limit horsepower wise is for the 749 ecu being used in a 355ci twin turbo application?
thanks

For the obd1 LT1 ecm you can use tunercat. OBD2 requires a different setup like LT1edit. Dont know how much that costs but I know the LS1 edit program is 450 dollars. You cant tune on the fly with tunercat for obd1 LT1. Not sure about LT1 edit. Someone will correct me if I am wrong.
