ECM interchangeability...

I need to replace my ecm (1228079) for a carbed car. I can get an ecm (same #, 1228079)...BUT the ecm is from a MPFI (Fuel injection, right?)car...What is the difference? The PROM? Will they interchange?

I've never seen GM use the same part number on two different ecms. Sounds like the one is mislabed.
