Radiator Petcock

I'm considering to replace the radiator petcock.
Do you think it's really OK to push the portion that is stuck in the radiator in, as mentioned in the link above? (the third gen camaro petcock is the same type)

Re: Radiator Petcock
The petcock screws into the radiator EXACTLY like a pipe plug. You could actually put those in place of pipe plugs elsewhere in your car if you wanted to. (coolant drains for example, at least, the ones that don't have a knock sensor in them as a plug)
In fact, you could think of it, as a pipe plug with a little manually operated valve in the middle.
That's all it is.

Re: Radiator Petcock
Thanks for the reply.
In fact, the petcock is not supposed to come off,
and even if it comes off anyhow, there's the portion that remains in the radiator.
And the problem is the portion left cannot be pulled out, it can just be pushed in.
When I replace the petcock, I have to replace both as a pair, so I have to push
the portion left into the radiator, as the link above said, to install a new petcock.
My worry is if the portion left and floating inside the radiator is problematic...

Re: Radiator Petcock
No-brainer.
http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par.../N-ik28fZ9pdif
Unscrew the part that screws into the radiator. Screw in a new one.
Pretty sure you can get things like these in Tokyo... when I was over there a few weeks ago, I saw parts stores all around.

Re: Radiator Petcock
I can get the parts here from Amazon.com, and that's not the problem.
The problems are:
1. if the petcock (male screw part) can be pulled out from the portion that is left inside the radiator (female screw part) without breaking any of these
2. how to replace the female part because it's not difficult to imagine the female one has become as brittle as the male one
You know, third gen drain plugs like this (http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par...1049_154474_0_)
are sold as a pair.

Re: Radiator Petcock
You're outsmarting yourself.
Your radiator has a hole in it, with threads.
There's a thing screwed into that hole.
You unscrew it. It's an ASSEMBLY. Doesn't matter what the one you have now looks like; whether it pushes in, pulls out, screws in, turns ¼ turn, WHATEVER. You're going to take the whole thing out and THROW IT IN THE GARBAGE, until you have nothing left but a radiator with a threaded hole in it.
You buy whichever one of those things fits whatever hole is in whatever radiator you've got. The new one comes as a COMPLETE assembly; all the parts, whatever pushes in, pulls out, screws in, WHATEVER, it ALL COMES AS A UNIT.
You screw the new one in.
You're done.
Takes about 2 minutes (not counting draining and refilling the coolant) and costs maybe 500 yen.
Yes, it really is that simple.

This is the same type as the third gen's.
The radiator doesn't have threads, the BODY has.
And the body is not supposed to be separated from the STEM,
even though a brittle stem might come off accidentally.

Has anyone ever replaced the BODY of the petcock?
