still running 195 stat

I was wondering how many of you guys still run a 195 stat on dd iroc 350? I was just thinking about installing a 180 into my dd iroc. Is it better or will it affect car? I've read numerous post , but I want to know what you guys think.

Thank you,
Gerry

i run a 180,but my fan on/off temp is changed in my prom also. If u run a 180 then coolant will just flow thru the radiator sooner. Fans are what cool the radiator and any fluid running thru it ,so your fan still wont be coming on until the CTS tells the ecm that the coolant has reached like 212 degrees or so.

Re: still running 195 stat

I've always ran a 195 degree thermostat. My iroc use to be a dd when I first got it. Did that from 1996 to about 2003. From then till now, its just an every once in a while driver. Never had a problem with a 195 thermostat.

Re: still running 195 stat

I run 160 Tstats and run the fans cooler but dont drive in winter anymore. I get hot very easy soo the cooler heater temps don't bother me at all.
The girlfriend doesnt even mind the temp in the car when its 30degs out and shes always cold !!

that makes no sense. your fan will be blowing on your radiator but your coolant will not be circulating through it.

Re: still running 195 stat

why dont u just change your thermo to a cooler one? For example if u run a 160 thermo then get a 176 on/166 off fan switch. If you run a 180 thermo get a 195 on /185 off switch, etc. If this is a later TPI car then the fan being controlled by the aftermarket fan switch will be the secondary fan (passenger side). Basically your main fan (driver's side) will not come on very often.
