I installed a new radiator and had to remove the rubber Isolators. I was going to use a bike inner tube as some have, however when they were I placed them under the radiator they seemed so thin that they were almost ineffective. I then got the idea of using spray foam under the radiator and was wondering if that would be more effective. I am also concerned how it will hold up to heat.

I ended up pulling the bike tubes out and now it is sitting on the metal and feels more snug then with the tubes.

My car is not a DD and sees maybe 1000 miles a year.

why cant you use the rubber isolators? im using the stock ones on my alum rad. i just had to trim the front piece that curves up since the rad is thicker than stock.

 

I maybe able to use the stock ones but I would have to trim them way down, because it sits up about 1 inch too high.

 

i pretty much cut the whole front L shape off. so its not just a flat rubber isolator and it works fine.

 

i agree, try & use the isolators. you definetly dont want an aluminum radiator to touch any metal because you can get small amounts of voltage in the metal, promoting electrolosis. if you have to mount it metal to metal, jegs sells sacrificial anodes that screw in where your drain petcock is.

 

I will use the rubber isolator / tire inner tube. I was just thinking ( I know thats dangerous) foam would be an alternative and maybe better but Ithink i'll stick with what is tried and true.
