355 overheating on highway but not in the city
ok i need everyone helps i gotta 355 carburated an i am kinda having some overheating problems its really confusing but if im driving in the city the car wont over heat runs right around 195-200 but as soon as i get on the highway an im cruising highway speeds the temp guage just wants to shoot up an not want to cool down but as soon as i get off the highway an i stop an go it will cool down right back to 195-200. im only running the stock radiator an with the stock dual fans i have a 3 piece aftermarket air dam stock reverse rotation water pump spinning counter clockwise when the motor is running so can anyone help on a good core radiator that is in a decent price range of 300-400 dollars an one that i will not have to cut an modd to make it fit in the radiator support i also need it with transmission cooler lines since im running a 700r4 auto transmission

Also, I assume you are running the stock serpentine belt setup? The single serpentine belt setup is the only one that takes the reverse rotation water pump.

Hey man, check the stickies... a lot of 3rd genners are using the Champion 3 core radiators off of ebay with great success and a 3 core all aluminum direct fit radiator for our rides for 200bucks is a steal... here is a link and good luck!

also check for a blockage in front of your rad. like leaves and debris or if you have ac between rad. and condenser is that 3piece air damn in the right location and another question is your car serpitine or multi belt?

Make sure your lower hose is not collapsing, Replacement hoses sometimes don't have the springs in them and they will suck closed at high and or constant RPM.

The fans shut off at a certain speed. 35mph and up i think.. Which is y the factory air deflector placement is so important..

Re: 355 overheating on highway but not in the city
have you done any wiring repairs or removed the fans recently? The 83 I have was doing the same thing when I bought it. The guy installed new radiator, water pump and all hoses before he gave up. Turned out he had the fans wired backwards. Would create an air damn at highway speeds
