A/C cluth engaged, no cooling?

Well I'm getting a little frustrated, since I've got about 500 into replacing most of my A/C (everything except hoses and Evap.) When I first set it up after pulling a vaccum, it cooled just fine, then first thing the next day, it was making a pretty loud high pitched "humming" noise and the comp would lock up for a second when the clutch would kick in, making the belt squeal. Then after restarting it a couple hours later to check things out, it wasn't doing it. I remember filling it to run at about ~30psi low side, but then was at like 50 or so the next day. Then I let some out and it cooled pretty good, then ofcourse, the next day I start it, same thing, more "humming" and brief compressor locking. Oh, and the compressor is getting pretty darn hot too, about a half second with the figure tip touch test. Two nights ago it was cooling really good, compressor queit at and all, low side at 36psi, so I thought I had it licked. Ofcourse, go out yesterday, and it's locking up for a second each time the clutch kicks in and the pressure it about 55-60. So I l let some more out, and the low side i running about 36, the clutch stays engaged, but no more cold air. I'm starting to think my new compressor is bad. I wish that I could see the high side pressure, but somebody put on the wrong high side conversion fitting, and my high side couple won't read it. If I can't figure out anything else by the morning, I'm planning on just exchanging the compressor to another new one. Any thoughts as to what else might be going on?

was thier a proper amount of oil put into system? you really need to see the high pressure side. i'd take it to the AC shop and have it looked at. its possible too much freon or maybe the compressor cut off switch isnt working properly...

Well tonight I discharged the whole system so I could change over to the proper high side fitting. I was gonna have to vent it anyway, to change the compressor anyway. So tomorrow the guy from Advanced is supposed to call me back after talking to his manager about warrentying the compressor. He said that he didn't see a problem since I did buy a new accum/orfice tube/flush all at the same time. He just want check with his boss first.
