Coolant Bypass Valve Removal

Anyone have any problems after removing the bypass valve and just running though the heater core all the time, other than a little higher interior temps. Someone had told me they blow out the core a couple times then put the valve back. I took mine out and just really dont want to blow out anything. The person who had the blow outs was running some high RPMs when it blew and i hope it was just an exception. Let me know what you guys have for experience.

You know what, i got to thinking after i wrote this and did it. I only drive this car in the summer. In storage in the winter. I rarely ever use the heat, if at all. Can i just cap the port on the back of the intake and then plug the intake port on the heater core? Then i dont have to worry about anything with the heater core.

Heat should be a requirement, you MAY need to defrost your windows, or defog them at some point.

As far as removing the valve? I did on mine, its long gone.

My car is garage kept, and only gets driven when its nice enough to take the t-tops out. Its been 10+ years since i have had to use the defrost.

No problems at all with doing it.

Might as well remove your wipers and motor then.

I could remove the wipers. The same blades have been on there since '01

Re: Coolant Bypass Valve Removal

Would the best thing to do in bypassing the core is running a hose from the port on the back of the intake to the radiator port under the cap?

Or is just having the the two large hoses going from the water pump to the radiator and the one going from the t-stat housing to the radiator enough for the cooling system?

That one. ^

Use a pipe plug(with sealant) to plug the hole in the intake manifold, clamp a rubber cap on the radiator's heater hose return nipple, then remove all other related hoses, and you'll be done.

With coolant going out the bottom of the radiator, through the large hose into the water pump, then pumped only through the block, heads and intake manifold, exiting out the thermostat housing, through the large hose into the top of the radiator, with no other places to send-or-return coolant, you'll have made your cooling system the most efficient it can possibly be for the engine.

But plugging the intake manifold is crucial, as a rubber cap on its exit nipple will eventually burst. Given that, if you decide you don't want to remove the nipple to plug the hole in the manifold, then just run a hose from there to the nipple on the radiator.

Or you could run a hose from the manifold to the port on top of the water pump. But that will recirculate some un-cooled coolant back through the engine, which won't be quite as effective as running the hose from the manifold to the radiator.

Re: Coolant Bypass Valve Removal

Ok, so im gonna have to weigh my options. Right now i have a hose going from the port on the back of the intake to the heater core, then from the other port on the heater core to the radiator. I dont use heat, and dont want to bother with a leaking core down the road.

All this in a effort to clean up the engine bay for shows.
