Smoke from drivers side

1987 IROC 305 Standard, No Mods.

What works...fans, there is coolant and I installed a new thermostat.

The problem...I drove my car for 5 minutes and the temps gauge pegged out. I parked it and there was smoke from the driver's side. I didn't see coolant that had gone on the engine and there was coolant in the overflow. Is there a part that commonly fails as far as the cooling system with these cars? What is the best way to go about this problem. Thanks in advance,
Joe

Re: Smoke from drivers side

You could check the heater diverter valve. Mine broke 5 minutes ago and coolant poured everywhere.
