Re: Would this fan controller work? reviews?
That one seems to be fine. Derale is a good brand. I was concerned about the 25amp total continuous draw limit, but if you are running stock fans it should be fine - stocks only draw about 11 amps continuous so even if you have dual fans it's under the rating.
You understand that this controller will run both fan together always right (if you have dual fans)? When the temp is reached, both fans will come on and run until the temp comes down. That is assuming you wire both fans to it. If you have duals you could leave one connected in factory config that would be ECM or head switch controlled.
The only way to have dual fans come on/off at different temps is to have a controller for each (unless someone makes a controller that will control dual fans as individual units).

Re: Would this fan controller work? reviews?
I put mine near the top radiator hose, I think thats what the instructions entail, anyway. Here is a pic, its the only one I could find. I mounted the relay to the upper fan mount and the probe would be to the left of it on this picture:

I ran a wire directly from the battery for my constant 12v source, and ran a wire from the Ign. port in the fuseblock for my keyed 12v source.

Re: Would this fan controller work? reviews?
I got the same probe type harness from autozone, yet the fan doesnt come on. I hooked the ignition/12v source to the exciter switch to the alternator. The probe on mine is near the lower radiator hose.

Re: Would this fan controller work? reviews?
it needs an ignition source other than the alternator but i suppose that will work. being mounted near the lower hose is the outlet and is way to cool. it needs to be mounted near the upper hose which is the inlet for a hotter temp.

Re: Would this fan controller work? reviews?
Make sure you also check the ground!!
Mine was giving me issues and I was getting frustrated with voltage spikes and stuff like that, and it turned out that I picked a bad spot to ground it, and the fan wouldnt turn on. You can check to make sure the relay is working by connecting the AC wire (should be green) to a positive battery source and the relay should click and the fan should turn on.

Re: Would this fan controller work? reviews?
Fan turns on. Checked off to do list. Noticed a leak coming from the passanger side exhaust header. where it meets the exhaust pipe. Leaking coolant(orange). Had to put more coolant into radiator. Checked the oil to see if it had mixed. Dont think its mixed. suppose to be creamy color, like coffee and cream. Or so I heard. What do you guys think?

Re: Would this fan controller work? reviews?
Have you guys ever heard of "Steel Seal". I got a blown head gasket that's causing the leak. I don't, I can't afford to have the head gaskets replaced the right way. I came across that product. Is it good? What can I use? Or do I have to do the more costly repair?

not to sure about steel seal, i have heard from numerous people that the "blue devil" brand head gasket sealant worked excellent. about $60 a bottle, available at your local oreilly's.

Re: Would this fan controller work? reviews?
Hi, I'm thinking about giving up fighting with the fan switches and doing this myself, but was wondering. Isn't an easy way to hook this stuff up going over to the fan relay you no longer use and snip the wires before the relay pigtail? There you have the 12 volts through the fused link, and a switched on with ignition wire already there, and maybe you can even send power down your already existing wire also? Haven't gotten one, so I haven't looked at directions yet, but seemed like a good idea? Only thing that bugs me is how to stick something in the radiator without punching a leak in it. Probably also in directions, Doh!

Re: Would this fan controller work? reviews?
The sender screwed into the head is the ongoing nightmare I no longer care to participate in. Don't know if the location is bad, the senders are bad, or if my car is particularly bad. I'm done with it. Really kind of hoping for better results this way. Worth a try. Not much more than the cost of another sender

I went to the Dakota system because like you, I could never get the stock setup to work like I wanted it to. Now life is great again, and I never worry about fans anymore.

Hey 87350IROC,
You are using the Dakota fan setup on duals or single fan unit? Where can you get that switch and is it adjustable or fixed temps? Thanks....

I'm using dual fans. The senders are sold by Dakota. The controller is what controls the turn on temps. No need to change hardware to change the temps.

Does anyone know where I can locate the relay for the secondary fan on a 90 IROCZ with the 5.7L and dual fan setup?
