Upper rad hose/ Griffen rad/86 Camaro..SOLVED!
I'm looking for an upper rad hose that'll fit my Griffen rad with an 1 1/2" upper rad hose fitting. OEM rads have an 1 1/4" hose. (1 1/2" at the t-stat housing).
Anyone else have this situation and have a part number or application? I've spliced a couple of hoses together to get by.
It's the same scenario for the lower hose as well. OEM is an 1 1/2" and the aftermarket rad has an 1 3/4" fitting.

Do you have an autoparts store like pepboys or autozone or similar?
I went into pepboys in my local town and they have these flexcoil rubber rad hoses for fairly cheap and in many different lengths. they have a metal coil inside that give it ability to flex and never collapse like round rubber tubes can. 1 1/2 inch diameter is available. Thats what I used on my griffen rad.

I hadn't considered that.
While I prefer the look of an OEM piece, having a spliced together rad hose is hardly OEM either. Another point for potential failure too.
Thanks. I'll check it out.

I have an extra hose from my Goodyear Hi-Miler hose kit that might work. Let me know if you are interested and I'll go dig it out.

Hmmm...kinda interesting. Maybe I have a different Griffin rad in mine than you have (Universal). I never measured the connections, but I was able to install the stock hoses, although I noticed they did seem to fit tighter.

Looking back, I think if I had paid more attention, I may have been able to get the same rad dimension-wise, but with the correct fittings for both inlet and outlet. I hadn't considered the hose sizes when I placed my order.

I ended up returning that one and got a 1" 2 core one with no tranny cooler or drain valve. Since I have a stick, the lack of a tranny cooler wasn't an issue....but draining the thing blows....makes a mess every time!
EDIT: And even then, I had to do some creative cutting on the shroud so my stock single electric fan would fit....Later on I just got an aftermarket fan that zip ties to the rad - much easier.

Re: Upper rad hose/ Griffen rad/86 Camaro
I thought I had ordered the same rad as the one I put in the 86 TA with the 502 (6 years ago). That dropped right in with only a slight trim of the rad frame. I had to be a little creative on the rad hoses but found some parts hanging at the local jobber shop that worked.
The rad is this Camaro would only fit if I trimmed the sides the rad cradle. Even then, it's sits up a full 3/8" and I had to fashion a trim piece the support the rad to the shroud. Looks pretty good but now it's the issue with both hoses.
Lot's of good suggestions here though, so I'll have to hit the jobber again.

Re: Upper rad hose/ Griffen rad/86 Camaro
In case there's any interest, I found a rad hose that fits perfectly. Apparently it's been the solution to many rad fitment problems in a variety of vehicles for years.
Napa pn 7240. 1 1/2" in and out with a slight bend mid length.
Easily good for 2/10's at the track!
