I know that you have to keep the Air Dam under the car for proper cooling but I was wondering if you also need to keep the pieces picured below in tact. I have just installed a New 3 Row radiator and an oil cooler and wanted to know if it would be OK to get rid of the plastic pieces that sit under the plastc cover and surround the outter front portion of the Radiator/ AC condesor.

Car is street driven 99% of the time and is not a daily driver. I marked the Area that I am talking about with RED X's ( it has already been removed n this picture). I am not talking about the Top cover marked with a yellow X in the second picture.

Neither of these cars are mine just pics that showed the respective parts well.

All those pieces help deflect air through the radiatior and not around it. I would leave them in.

They actually do nothing for the cooling of the radiator. In the stock TPI cars, air is funneled up in front of the radiator there for the air cleaner assembly. All the radiator airflow is supplied by use of the vacuum created by the air dam underneath, and the airflow is pulled from under the car and not from in front. You should be able to remove all that with no issue at all to cooling operations.

I would leave them in, air is like water its take the path of least resistance.

I had that part out of my camaro for a long time, and mine never went far over 190*.

You don't need it, its more of a cosmetic part, than anything else.

Monitor your temp with them in and with them out and go with what's better for the car or makes you happier.

I second that!

I had an 84 Frebird that ran hot once- never figured it out but looking back pretty sure it was because of that piece missing in pic 2- radiator shroud thingy..

Firebirds don't have that piece. They have a metal panel that also holds your hood latch mechanism. I doubt you were missing it.

It's not a big deal either way. I just put in a tranny cooler and new aluminum 3 row radiator and had to remove it. It didn't seem like it did a whole lot and I thought by removing it I could free up some space and give myself more room to work in the future along with being able to monior the cooler easier.
