odd problem, system holds pressure forever
ok, maybe not forever, but the cooling system in my car holds pressure for way too long, for instance, i have not touched the car in 2 weeks, and when i took the radiator cap off this afternoon, it blew coolant everywhere. It does this all the time.
Im at a loss as to why.
any ideas? the radiator cap is 16lbs

Think I'd start with a new radiator cap. The radiator caps where out. They have a spring loaded valve in thm that is supposed to release pressure vis releasing some coolant to the overflow bottle. Then, through suction the coolant is forced back into the radiator as it cools. That's why the bottle has a hot line higher on the bottle than the cold line.

Re: odd problem, system holds pressure forever
ok, so i went over things, and from what i could tell, the vent on my overflow cap was not working, so i made a new baffle for it. This afternoon, i had no pressure in the system. I changed the radiator cap anyway, and will see tomorrow if it again properly bleeds the pressure off.
bad news, the pressure pushed 2 freeze plugs just enough to get them to weep, fixed one, the other is by the oil filter. ITs a little tight in there, so i just tapped the plug a few times, hopefully it will reseal, if not, its not going to be fun changing that one.

the problem was that the overflow cap was not venting, i vented it and everything is normal, so far, the water leaks have stopped.
