Hello everyone I have a 2.8 86 berilinetta I'm currently restoring. Recently I had a problem with the old plastic radiator and it unfortunately blew up. It has now been replaced with an all aluminum dual row one working just fine. Problem is now Ive been having some crazy dash problems and all my gauges are not working. Soooo I'm in search of a decent stand alone in car temp gauge so i can monitor the temp of the old beast. Mostly so I can make sure that there are no more problems with the cooling system. Just looking for a website and product name thanks a bunch and any help would be greatly appreciated looking forward to answers! p.s. pardon my terrible sentence structure ;oD

I bought a cheapie from Walmart of all places, checked it's accuracy using with a pot of water on the stove top and haven't had any problems for a couple of years now.

was it just a water temp gauge and how did you install it?

just go to advance auto and get yourself a sunpro temp gauge. I got mine for like $10 on sale once and they're pretty accurate...

Do they make one of those gauge clusters that go down the side of the door panel for the third gen?

Yes, I temporarily installed it in the corner between the center console and the dash. There was a screw for mounting nearby. You can also remove the far LH vent and install a gauge there as well. I'm not sure if those apply on your Burly because mine are mounted in a standard '85 Camaro and I know my '86 Burly has a completely different dash. Everything I did is removable without damaging anything.

-I just went out and checked, you would probably be best in using either side right under the dash, I don't think there's enough room by the upper left with the digital pod without scratching something.

That's exactly why i am having the problems lol. The person that I bought the car from removed the digital dash and replaced it with the analog gauges when it got an engine swap. It has been having problems ever since. Ill figure it out eventually but she runs so whatever. I'll figure something thanks for all your help! and if anyone else has any good ideas or reputable gauges please let me know. To the best of my knowledge the engine got swaped from an rs or something or at least that's what they said.

FYI: I've been having trouble finding stock replacements that work so I can see why. I have a lot of money in radios and pods that either barely work or not at all. I ended up re-soldering the board on one of the pods just to be able to use it. Another guy I know replaced the entire dash and harness on his. Let me know though if you need me to check anything.

are you referring to the A-pillar pods? if so, yes. They make 2 and 3 pod gauge clusters. I currently have a 3pod gauge cluster down my A-pillar...

IMO for the price and quality you cant beat the equis gauges the seel at all the oriely auto parts store around here.I`ve even heard they`re made by autometer.I dont have anything to back that up,but they`re cheaper and I`ve had one for years.Think I paid twenty bucks for mine.They have several differant styles and they look way better than the sunpros.

Thank you everyone for your input greatly apreciated. Now that I have done a bit of searching I have come to the conclusion I would like to replace the gauge cluster. Not only do they not work I want it to look more unique. Little bit of searching on summit found me the Covans Thunder Road Drilled gauge cluster. Do they make anything like that for our third gens? Thanks again for all the help!
