Removing rust from an aluminum intake

Removing rust from an aluminum intake
I recently picked up a TPIS intake and it has quite a bit of rust in the coolant passages. I want to get this stuff out before I install it so what's the best method with it off the car? I considered filling the passages with CLR and letting them soak but the label says it's not to be used on aluminum.

clean what you can with dish soap , plastic bottle brush , old tooth brush etc. . DO NOT USE C.L.R. or any alkaline base cleaner . they like to eat aluminium , once they start they don't stop . do not use metal brushes , you will end up with bi-metal corrosion . clean as good as you can and don't worry . good luck .

Re: Removing rust from an aluminum intake
I bought one of these, and it worked really well for cleaning the intake. It didn't take all of the rust out of the coolant passages, but it sure got a lot of it out. It also worked really well cleaning out the EGR and intake ports, which were pretty nasty. The picture shows the floor cleaning attachment, but it comes with a pointy nozzle one too, that will reach pretty far into the ports.
