No A/C clutch engagement?

I'm trying to get my old A/C to get me through the summer as money will not let me completely replace the whole system properly yet. I seem be be getting ~120 psi on the low pressure side and the clutch will only engage when I manually overide the cycle swith in the accumlator with a jumper wire. I'm thinking that the switch will not engae the clutch since the low side is a 120 psi and not less then 40 psi that it looks for to engage the clutch. Does that sound correct? What would cause the high pressure in the low side though? I was thinking it was likely overfilled or just a blockage somewhere in the system? Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks Again,

Tom

Re: No A/C clutch engagement?

if you revacumm it may take care of any blockage..i had a guy come out and he did it for about $20...look on your local craigslist.org for a a/c guy..they can probably get you goin for around $20-60...another word of advice, it sounds like your compressor is bad so when you fill it u want to undercharge it a bit...if its overcharged then let some out..hope this helped
