Which side is low side for AC
I just used some dye to find a leak and it went all over. Then i tried this refrigerent with a sealent, but the refrigerent coupler wont even go on the accumulator! I've been trying the right side of it, which has the blue cap, but I'm beginning to think the red and blue caps are switched!

The caps are blue and red. I now know the high and low, but i still need help about this refrigerent coupler not being able to go on the nozzle.

Re: Which side is low side for AC
Are you trying to put r134a in? The fittings for that is much different than r12 fittings. If not an easy trick to tell high side from low side is that high side will be the small line coming off the compressor and low side is the big line.

You have to slide the coupler sleeve, attach, and release the sleeve.

If that's the case the fittings on the system are probably screwed on to the old r12 fittings and I believe it is possible to have the red and blue switched.

Low side(blue)should be on the drier on the firewall. As atomicskr suggested they could be switch. The high side is almost always at the compressor.

Re: Which side is low side for AC
Yea i tried it there but the old style valve is too small for the r134. So i need to get the retrofittings that were never put on when it was converted. Thanks guys.
Oh and 86Niterider, i noticed your low side dust cap is red. Shouldn't it be blue?

Re: Which side is low side for AC
I just converted my 92 RS with 3.1 L to AutoFrost 406a.. 86NiteRider's pic showing location is a correct for a 92 RS... The low side is the fitting on the right side of the accumulator in the picture just as shown by the arrow... Technically, it should be blue to match EPA requirments.. The high side fitting is to the left of the accumulator on the small pipe... Connect only to the low side... The high side pressure can be very high around 150 to 200psi... R12 uses screw on fittings and R134a uses quick connect couplers...

Re: Which side is low side for AC
r134a has different sized fittings for high and low side. So not only is the color wrong the fitting will be larger than the low side fitting. It is ok to connect using the red hose so long as you are connected to the fitting shown in that picture above. A good way to tell is to check pressure. Before connection a bottle. If it's below 55-60 psi with the system running you are on the low side.

Re: Which side is low side for AC
I probably have the wrong color on the fitting but that is definetley where you connect. I have been doing the air every spring on this car the last three years and it get connected where I have the rrow.
I bbought a kit when I first did it from Auto Zone that has the conversion fitting included. all of the auto parts stores seem to carry it. I believe it is called EZ chill or something simular. You probably need the adapter to make your connection fit.
