Strange coolant leak

Hey Guys,
I recently bought a 92 firebird with the 3.1. I knew it had problems when I bought it, but this is a new one to me. Whenever I put water in the radiator, It leaks out back by the tranny pan. When I jacked it up to look under there, it started leaking out of a hole in the dust cover around the torque converter. I'm used to older cars so as bad as it may sound, I'm not too sure of just were everything is. I dont know if there are any hidden lines or hoses behind the dust cover or anything. Anybody have any ideas what it could be? any help or opinions would be very much appreciated. Thanks

Re: Strange coolant leak

Sounds like a bad freeze plug to me too. If you are going to do your own work, get a good shop manual and think about replacing them all. That`s a job you only want to do once.

Re: Strange coolant leak

If it is one of the welsh (freeze) plugs fix it soon, I had one that leaked (just over the trans) and I had to top the coolent up every week (so not heaps) but I was doing 100K on a expressway when it let go dumped all the coolent and cooked 260'F+.
I had to drop the trans to get to it but ever since it over heated the engine has been breathing heaps out the rocker cover vents (stuffed rings)

Make it as easy on yourself as possible and get a good shop manual if you are doing your own work.
