Antifreeze Sitting on my engine
Hey guys, I have a quick question....
I had my 92 Z28 in the shop recently (about 2 weeks ago) and I had the thermostat replaced. I was refilling my washer fluid this afternoon and I noticed a little bit of antifreeze laying on my engine right where the hose from the radiator connects to the engine block. It's been 2 weeks since I had it in the shop, and I've probably put 20-25 miles on it since then. Would that be some excess antifreeze from when I had my stat replaced, or do you think there's some sort of leak there?

Antifreeze doesn't evaporate. It was probably from when they changed the T-stat. Soak it up with a rag and see if it comes back after a couple of days. Then you'll know if you have a leak.

I've got the same dang leak. It seems like alot of TPI motors leak at the thermostat housing.

Thanks for the replies... There's no puddle under the car. That's the first thing I checked because if there was one I was going to get it cleaned up ASAP. Don't want my dog getting in there and getting ahold of it.
I'll soak it up and see if it returns. There's not much there, maybe a half of a teaspoon or so.

I had a problem like that about 1 year ago. At first I couldn't really see it because of the TPI unit but finally found a leak at the little hose just near the tstat. All I had to do was tighten the clamp.

I had the same thing as the guy above. Thought the t-stat housing was leaking and it turned out to be the hose running from the throttlebody to the intake. It had cracked and was leaking right into that area making it seem like the housing was leaking.
6 bucks later, the hose is replaced and good as new.

Also those bolts for the thermostat housing go into the water jacket. If you don't put a little sealer on them before you put those bolts in,the radiator fluid will continually seep out through the threads.I just changed mine and had the same problem.Kept looking and seeing fluid sitting on top of the manifold right by the thermostat.

I soaked the antifreeze up with a rag yesterday and drove the car around for a while. When I got back I checked it out and there was no antifreeze there, so maybe it was some that leaked when the thermostat was replaced. I guess I'll just have to keep an eye on it.
