Upper Radiator Hose?

I have a quick question. I was getting a new upper radiator hose for my 91 RS(305 TBI) 5 speed, and the hose I got from AutoZone was L-1105. It was a shorter one from the thermostat to the upper radiator. The guy at AutoZone swore to me that I was supposed to get this XL-449 that was twice as long with many bends(maybe goes to the bottom?), but it looked nothing like the one that is one there, so I got the shorter one. I know the previous owner replaced the radiator with one from a junkyard.

Did the previous owner get the wrong radiator? Or is the guy from Autozone just smoking something.....

This caught my eye since I have been battling overheating problems lately. I just put on the lower air deflector, and replaced the fan switch with a cooler one and put on a 180* stat.

Does your car have A/C?The Kelly Springfield upper hose P/N XL-449 is for A/C - HD cooling cars. The P/N L-1105 hose is for non A/C cars. This is according to Auto Zone's website catalog( http://www.autozone.com ).By the way the lower hose is P/N L-259.I found it makes things go easier by looking it up before going to the store. But if they aren't busy I have them look it up to verify.a lot of the counter people just know/go by what the computor shows them.
The Gates upper hose is P/N 21675 for TBi car.It doesn't state a different hose for A/C or non A/C cars..Lower hose is P/N 21324(Gates).

Yes my car does have AC, which is why I'm kinda confused. The L-1105 is definately the right hose for what my car has now. I know it's a different radiator from the original, looks like they got it from a junkyard. Are there different radiators for A/C and Non-A/C cars?????

But anyways, I hooked it all up the other night, with my new fan switch and 180* stat, and she was working great. I'm guessing it's all fine.

There are some differences between non-A/C and A/C radiators. But the main difference is in core thickness or number of cores(or pass tubes?).Then you have different waterneck/thermostat housing angles/lengths.This can be the reason for a different upper hose too.
Main thing is you've got her running right.
