Tranny cooler

I feel stupid asking this, but I never used a tranny cooler before: Does the lines from the tranny go into the cooler AND rad, or just the cooler? The reason I'm asking this is I'm converting from a manual tranny to an auto and I want to re-use my old rad to help cut costs. If I remember correctly, my stock rad does not have provisions for tranny oil lines.

Doesn't matter as long as you have a big enough cooler.
Some people use both, but you don't want to over cool the fluid.

You can do it either way, but it is best if you use it with the radiator. Now this is just the way I have mine. The fluid goes into the cooler and then into the radiator. I do this to maintain a more constant temperature on the fluid. If it is cold outside the fluid might get too cold which is not really good for the tranny either. But by running it through the radiator it brings the temperature back up to normal. Plus this way it helps heat up the fluid in cold weather.
If you don't have a tranny cooler in the radiator then run it by itself, but like said before, overcooling is not good either. In cold weather you could use some cardboard to cut down on airflow through the cooler.

Although running through the stock tranny cooler is good to keep a consistant temp. due to warming from the radiator, there are a few problems. Messy cutting of lines/hose clamps etc, (not a big deal but someone people will complain), and if your car overheats excessively so will your tranny. I bought a B&M from summit for $45 and it claims to have technology to allow the cool fluid to flow through a smaller section of the radiator so it warms up quicker. Sounds like a good idea to me and its one less connection to leak.

do a search, i had a thread just like this one going...final conclusion was was run it seperate, becuase tranny's should run at like 120-140 or so, and the radiator will actually heat the fluid up instead of keeping it cool. So run it seperate, just through the cooler...

i've always had better results running it seperately
it keeps the radiator slightly cooler
and keeps the tranny slightly cooler

i also have the dearle pan too, which is good, but only when their is air flow
i will put a bigger tranny cooler on her car shorly

i would also place it near the primary cooling fan too
also an aftermarket tranny filter is another good idea so is the dearale tranny pan.

i've never had issues in the winter here on long island.
done that for years on my old dodge van, blazer, and soon to do it on the jeep and her car.
