Over-cooling??
I have an 86 bird just put in a new thermostat but i didnt even know what a thermostat was until 2 months ago. after i put in the thermostat wich i vagley remember being a 160 degree thermo my car stopped blowing hot air in the interior. but when i drive the car for about an hour it starts blowing a bit warmer then goes back and forth cold-hot-cold-hot before i take out the riduculously hard thermostat housing and take about an hour doing it does anyone know what might be happening? also winter is just around the corner what would be a good thermostat to go with?

The 160 is to low for heat need to change out to about 180. The factory is 195 if I remember correctly. 160 for a hot area is great but if you need heat the coolant never has a change to warm up because it allows the coolant to start moving to soon. Where the 195-180 keeps the coolant from moving till the temp is 195 or 180. Where yours is letting the coolant move at 160 which is not hot enough to create good heat. Hope this helps
