Boiling & overflowing resevoir tank when car shuts off?

Why does it boil and overflow out of the resevoir tank? The car isn't overheating at all. Normal running temperature. Is there too much water/coolant? Even when it was low it would do that. But not before I re-routed the return tube to the side of the radiator. There are no leaks at all where I put the hose at.

Maybe a bad radiator cap?

Radiator cap it is. A nice shiny new one should solve this problem.

That's what I was hoping it was. Why do they go bad?

Mine went bad from years of opening/closing the radiator -- the rubber seals were not longer pliable and were leaking.
