I cross threaded the coolant line!

I cross threaded the bottom transmission line on the rad.I knew it was gonna happen. I went real slow and thought it was good but still managed to do it. I was thinking that instead of removing the raqd again, and somehow fixing it, could I just install a tranny cooler and bypass the one in the rad? If so can I just leave the rad ones open?

"If so can I just leave the rad ones open",... yes.

but you don't want the biggest trans cooler you can buy, you want the biggest trans cool you can properly mount in front of the A/C condenser,... the bigger the better. you may also want to get a trans temp gage & install it as where you are at, the trans may not warm up enough in the winter,.. too cold isn't good on the tranny either.

Chances are you've stripped the threads in the nut, not in the cooler.

Thats what I was hoping but no, brass filings where all over the place. I got a 4"x11" 3/4" thick cooler, should this be sufficient?

What would be the fix for an over-cooled transmission? Some type of thermostat on the trans cooler?

I'm going to be putting one on my bird, and of course I don't want to fry the transmission by getting it too cool either.

My friend's running a $40 cooler from Summit Racing in his bird. Too large of a cooler is definitely a bad thing though.

You could use a thermostat (Perma-cool makes one IIRC), or you could install the auxiliary cooler inline before the rad, so that the factory cooler warms the fluid up to normal operating temperature.
