fan switch/thermostat question
I'm sure most of these have been asked somewhere in the threads but I don't have tons of time on the comp to do lots of searching so appologies in advance. My car is an 88 GTA with a 305
I'm giving my car a good solid tune up this year before it hits the road and I was planning on swapping the thermostat and the fan switch as part of the tune up. Now cooling isn't exactly my speciality.
Will changing either of these affect my computer and end up in my SES light comming on? I've heard that it depends on which head the fan switch is on?
How do I know which temp. fan switch I want to get? I live in Vancouver BC and the hottest our summers get are about 30-35C. I have no idea what that is in Fahrenheit... I think around 80s to 90 or so.
Thanks, storage insurance is up soon so I have to order my parts very soon.

No, they wont affect the ecm. Unless you go with ones that make the engine run cooler, but then that's a seperate, nasty issue with computer controlled models. The temp sensor is in the passenger side head, under the #6 spark plug.
edit: er, nasty issue if you dont want to get into PROM tuning..

Yeah. I'm in Calgary and I use a 180* tstat and a manual fan switch. It keeps the car right at 180* even in the city. That's with a metal rad and a tranny cooler in front of it, too. But if you run a 180 'stat and about the same fan switch, it'll be fine. That shouldnt be enough of a change to throw a code. Just check into running in open/closed loop. I'm not too sure about that stuff yet...
