Trans cooler VS. deep fluid pan

Would if be cheaper and easier to go with a deeper trans fluid pan than a cooler?...Is it worth using a deeper pan for better cooling? Any disadvantages?

A deeper pan is going to get beat up hanging below the car. I can't see it cooling as well as a cooler.
