coolant additives
Hello all,
In Jegs catalogue they sell coolant additives that say it will lower the coolant by 30 deg.!!! This is kinda hard for me to believe. What are your view on this product or has anybody tired this stuff, like water wetter, and purple. Any comments or information will be greatly appreciated.

I don't think I would trust it......If you do use it keep an eye on your temperature. How do you know the additive won't screw up anything in the future?

again. how can they lower your temp by 30* if temp is regulated by your thermostat. maybe if your running temps of 250* or something.. it just doesn't make since how a product could lower your temps to below the opening temp of a thermostat. even if it does then its just a band aide fix to a more serious problem. 220-30=190*

Water Wetter and Purple
Water Wetter didn't do anything. Purple seemed marginally effective, but not 30 Degrees! I'd say 10 tops.

The only time my engine heats up is when I get slowed down in traffic and there isn't enough airflow through the radiator. If I can stay at 40-45 mph or more, no problems. If slowed, the temp climbs quickly until the fans kick in, which is pretty damn hot, well above the 220 mark. The temp also runs slightly higher than "normal" if it's a hot as hell day (over 100).
Water Wetter did nothing for me. I tried it, made no difference.
I'd kinda like to burn a new chip that turns on the primary fan at 220 or so.

water wetter only shows a real diff when you are running straight water..
its good for the track since you cant run coolent there, but if you add water wetter, it has lubes for the waterpump and it runs a lil cooler.

Yeah, most of those additives listed above work better with straight water. I run two bottles of water wetter and a water pump lubricant. No antifreeze. For one, I live in Florida and for two, I split a hose at the track once and got antifreeze on my slicks. Even Oxyclean would not fix those pants!

try "freeze it" it works MUCH better than the red line water wetter. i have a 89 firebird, 477 bbc built for outlaw limited 10.5. living in kansas is hot racing. (95+ w/ 95 % humidity) my car would be 220+ at the end of a run, now it hasn't ever got passed 190, most days it stays under 180. i run 40% anti-freeze 60% water. this stuff really does work.
