Who's installed their own fan switch?
I'd like to get some feedback from those of you who have installed fan switches, such as those outlined in the GM F-Body Electric Coolant Fan Specifications and Modifications for Dual Fan Applications tech note and the Derale Tech Tips note?
I'm looking at getting either the Hayden Fan switch (Part No. 3647) or the Derale Adjustable fan switch (P/N 16759) along with a 170 degrees C thermostat (AC Delco #10220957).
Generally speaking, was the install straightforward?
Have you had any problems since installing the switch?
Has you car overheated since installation?
Was the install a do-it-yourself job, or something a mechanic should do?
My car overheats every summer. I'm not one of those guys you see on the side of the road with all the steam billowing from underneath the hood. My car wont let the situation come to that, she's VERY finicky! On occasion (after cruising around on one of those scorching hot days), she won't let me start her after a quick stop to the store. I'll have to wait 10-15 minutes, or longer for it too cool down before it'll start back up for me. Has anyone else ever had this happen to them?
I've had this happen to me on both my IROC's, both 89's.
Thanks for the help

you should find there some helpful diagrams. the installation was a breeze. haven't had any problems and my car runs cooler without the A/C condenser in front of the radiator, the 160 stat and the switch.
